As a member of the Purdue Community, you should be familiar with the Purdue Emergency Procedures Handbook. This manual describes the procedures to follow in a variety of emergencies. As a building occupant, you need to be familiar with your specific building emergency plan.
We now have five USDA-ARS people in our building that are certified in CPR and certified to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). These people are located in 241 along with the AED.
If an AED and an operator are needed, they will be glad to help.

In a life-threatening emergency dial 911 from a public or campus telephone.
Whistler building consist of 4 floors. There is a sub-basement (in chase of tornado go to this floor), basement, first floor, and a second floor. This building is primarily used for research in the agricultural industry.
A pre-designated safe location near a building where building occupants assemble and report to the Roll Taker(s) after evacuating their building. The Emergency Assembly Area is located at the south end of the building in the grass lot in front of the Food Science building. In chase of evacuation everyone will meet here to take a role by the Role Taker.

When the building needs to be evacuated use the stairs, do not use the elevator. We will meet at the Emergency Assembly Area (EAA). The EAA is at the south end of the building in front of the Food Science building. Shortly after assembly role will be taken by the Role Taker.
A building occupant is required by law to evacuate the building when the fire alarm sounds. Do not re-enter the building or work area until you have been instructed to do so by the emergency responders. When the fire alarm sounds exit the building using the stairs, do not use the elevator. We will meet at the Emergency Assembly Area (EAA). The EAA is at the south end of the building in front of the Food Science building. Shortly after assembly role will be taken by the Role Taker.
A tornado is defined as a violent rotating column of air extending to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of 250 mph or more. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide and 50 miles long. Tornados may occur with little or no advanced warning or siren activation. In some circumstances, it may be necessary to move to a concrete building. When the tornado alarm sounds use the stairs, do not use the elevator, to go to the subbasement level. We will meet at the northeast corner of the building. Shortly after assembly role will be taken by the Role Taker. [More info on tornadoes]
