4-H Youth 

4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

General 4-H Information:
The Clark County 4-H Program is open to youth in pre-school through the 12th grade. Enrollment
deadline is April 15th each year, but will be accepted after this date.  It is best to get enrollment in by the
deadline so that youth can be entered in the computer and will start receiving the 4-H Newsletters with
timely information. For more information check out our website at www.clarkcounty4h.com.

          > Regular 4-H is for youth in grades 3-12 as of January 1st
          > Mini 4-H is for youth in grades K-2 as of January 1st
          > Explorers is for youth prior to Kindergarten.

PROGRAM FEE FOR JOINING 4-H IN 2013-2014 YEAR - There is a program fee for joining 4-H which will be $25 per member in grades 3-12.  Explorers/Mini 4-H members are still no cost.  The max any one family (capped at 3) will pay will be $75.

To obtain a copy of the 2013 4-H Project Handbook, please click here.   The 2013 Project Handbook is now available in the Extension Office, on the website and CD's are also available in the Extension Office.   Please remember, one copy per family.

Mark your calendars that the 2013 Clark County 4-H Fair dates are:  July 12th-20th.  Also 2014 4-H Fair dates are July 11th-19th.
 

Junior Leader Organization:
The Junior Leader Organization is open to youth in grades 7-12.  The next meeting will be held on Sunday, April 14th at 2:00p.m. in the Community Building.

Exchange Trip:
This year the Clark County Junior Leaders participated in an Exchange Trip with Pennsylvania.  Eight
boys & girls arrived here and stayed with local families the week of June 28th-July 5th.    Other exchange trips the group has participated in are:

          Florida (1990-91); Colorado (1992-1993); Texas (1994-1995); New York (1996-1997); 
          Wisconsin (1998-1999); Delaware (2000-2001); Idaho (2002-2003); North Dakota (2005-2006);
          Michigan (2008-2009) and California (2010-2011)

Adult Leader Organization:
Each 4-H Club in the County is led by an Adult Leader or Leaders. 
      > Club leaders provide support and leadership to a "club" of 4-H members.
      > Share information with members and help individuals achieve their desired results.
      > Recruit parents and other volunteers to assist with programs and projects and serve as the
          linkage between the County Extension Office and the 4-H Club.
      > Time commitment varies, but most clubs meet on a regular basis throughout the year and may
          conduct community service activities.

To become an Adult Leader with an existing 4-H Club or to start a new 4-H Club an interested person must go through a screening process. If you are interested in becoming a new Adult Leader, please call the Clark County Extension Office at 812-256-4591 to obtain the proper paperwork to start this process.

4-H Club Definition:
A 4-H Club is an organized group of at least five youth from three different families who meet regularly with adult volunteers or staff for a long-term, progressive series of educational experiences.

The Adult Leader's Organization meets on the third Thursday of each month (unless otherwise notified).
The Adult Leaders will not be meeting in December.  The next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the Extension Office Conference Room.
