Animal Agriculture 

ANIMAL AGRICULTURE 

DeKalb County encompasses 363 square miles of land in Northeastern Indiana.  Of that, 251 square miles were reported as being farmland (crop and pasture land) in 2007 (160,665 acres). 

As of 2009, there are 8,100 head of cattle in DeKalb County (900 beef cows and 1,300 milk cows), 13,589 head of hogs, 968 head of sheep, 777 head of chickens, and 47 head of turkeys.  Livestock receipts for 2007 totaled $22,981,000.
