FOOD & HEALTH

The missions of the Food and Health specialty is to help consumers better understand and evaluate nutrition and food safety information. With the continued need for Health and Human Sciences education, the Extension Educator becomes a vital link in the community, providing information and educational programming at the point-of-need to enhance lives, homes, and communities.

Programs and resources are available in the following areas:

Educational Approach

Extension approaches education from a human development standpoint by focusing on the interactions of children, adults, and families and the positive and negative situations in which they live. Through relevant and meaningful educational programs and resources, Extension works to improve challenging situations and strengthen positive ones.

USDA - My Plate
MyPlate was developed as an effort to promote healthy eating to consumers. The MyPlate icon is easy to understand and it helps to promote messages based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The new MyPlate icon builds on a familiar image — a plate — and is accompanied by messages to encourage consumers to make healthy choices.
