What is 4-H?

4-H is a national youth organization that uses the "learn by doing" approach. 4-H strives to help youth develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills. It is a great way to learn new things that are of interest to you.

What will I do in 4-H?

4-H members form clubs with an adult as their leader. They elect officers and make decisions with the help of their leader.

4-H members have regular meetings (about six or more a year). Each meeting has a planned program with activities, demonstrations, field trips and refreshments.

4-H members choose which projects they would like to take. The 4-H projects manuals help members with their projects.

4-H members work on their projects throughout the year and exhibit them at the Jackson County Fair in the summer. Projects are judged and members receive ribbons to show how well they did.

How do I join 4-H?

4-H is easy to join. You can email the office at jacksonces@purdue.edu or call the office at 812-358-6101. The Extension Office will tell you what club is in your area. It costs $20 for regular 4-H (3rd Grade-12th Grade) and $5 for mini members (K-2nd Grade). Some clubs may have additional dues. Your 4-H leader will inform you about how to pay your dues.
