Maplewood Nature Center

Members in attendance:  Jordan Brown,  Jeff Campos, Theresa Clark, Austin Kerr, Laura Kratz, Mervin Lehman, Crystal Leu, Jennifer McBride, Cara Perkins, Sherryl Rhinesmith, Marissa Richardson, Sharon Strayer, and  Joyce Weber

Ex Officio Members: John Emerson, Steve Engleking, Ann Fremion and Deb Pontecorvo

Business Meeting

The business meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m.

John Emerson gave a brief orientation as he had previously met with all new members.  He had each of the board members introduce themselves and tell a bit about themselves.

The meeting was adjourned for the supper provided by the Patchwork Patterns Homemakers club.

Welcome

Crystal welcomed the board at 6:29 p.m.  Crystal asked for us to look at the Extension Board listing to make sure the information is correct.  If it is not, please give the corrected information before the end of the evening.

Crystal thanked the Patchwork Patterns Homemakers for the delicious dinner. 

Minutes from the January 12, 2012 meeting were read. Laura Kratz moved to accept the minutes as read. Marissa Richardson seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

2011-12 Board Meeting Schedule

The meeting schedule for the 2011-12 year was agreed upon, with the places to be determined:

June 5, 2012 – 6:00 p.m.  Budget meeting -Tentatively to be held at County Office Building

October 11, 2012 – 6:00 p.m.

January 10, 2013 – 6:00 p. m.

February 28, 2013 – Annual Banquet (Woodruff Grove tentative site)

March 21, 2013 - Reorganizational Meeting

Election of Officers:

Crystal entertained a motion for president: Sharon Strayer nominated Jeff Campos.   Laura Kratz moved nominations be closed Sherryl Rhinesmith seconded.  Motion carried.  Jeff Campos elected by acclamation

Joyce Weber nominated Theresa Clark for secretary. Sherryl Rhinesmith moved to close the nominations. Cara Perkins seconded the motion. Motion carried.  Theresa Clark elected by acclamation. 

Committee Appointments:

Theresa Clark moved that the following Board Members be appointed as representatives of the Extension Board:

P-CARET Representatives:  Shannon Schrock.  We could consider a second position.  If anyone is interested, please contact John.  It could involve going to the trip to Washington, DC.  The experienced members will mentor the new members.  Age is no barrier.  It does not need to be a current Extension Board member.

Woodland Land & Lake: Joyce Weber will continue to represent our interests.

LaGrange County Park Board:  Ardala Hepler has been our representative for several years.  She represents the Ag. Agent of LaGrange County

New Business: 

John explained the program and pictures that were set up around the room, that deal with food safety.  The program was provided through a grant by Operation Roundup of REMC.

Jeff explained the nixle program that just started in LaGrange County.  The website is funded through web ads and other programs for purchase.  Nixle is run through the sheriff’s department.  The communications director will send out the message – from school delays, silver alerts, amber alerts, and power outages.  Can get text message, email, face book

Mervin Lehman moved to adjourn.  Jeff Campos seconded the motion.  The motion carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:16 p.m.

Next board meeting will be June 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.  Location will be the LaGrange County Office Building Conference Room.  The budget committee will meet at 5:30 p.m.
