Purdue Extension Annual Meeting

President Crystal Leu opened the meeting at 6:04 p.m. by welcoming our guests to the Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church.
Current board members were introduced: Jordan Brown (exiting senior), Jeff Campos, Theresa Clark, Austin Kerr, (exiting senior),Laura Kratz, Mervin Lehman, Jennifer McBride, Mike Patka, Cara Perkins, Sharon Strayer, Joyce Weber, and Ryan Young.
The two new youth members, Evan Gilliland and Erin Miller, were presented.
Also introduced were the office staff, Ann Fremion and John Emerson. Steve Engleking was unable to attend because he is helping conduct the first statewide Small Farm Conference. Auxiliary staff members Sara Mills, Tammy Jackson, and Laney Kratz summer intern, were also introduced. Debby Pontecorvo was unable to be here tonight.
Cara Perkins of the Nominating Committee introduced the candidates nominated to fill the five board seats. John indicated that the sixth person, if he or she is willing, will fill Ted Wensick's position as he is moving out of state. Those candidates were:
Cara asked for nominations from the floor. None were heard. Jeff Campos moved to close the nominations. Theresa Clark seconded the motion. The motion carried. The audience was instructed to vote for 5 of the 6 candidates. Ballots were distributed and voting was conducted.
Mrs. Leu thanked the Woodruff Grove Church for the wonderful dinner and the county Extension Homemakers for the desserts. Pastor Cain opened the dinner with prayer. Those present thanked the women of the Woodruff Grove Church for the delicious dinner through applause.
Steve Cain, from Purdue University, presented an informative program on the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) Entitled Disaster Affecting Indiana: Building COADS for Your Community. Steve is the nationally-recognized EDEN Homeland Security Project Director and national VOAD Board member. He ensures that citizens of Indiana have resources to address Indiana disasters through personal contact in disaster-affected areas and the Purdue/EDEN website. When not responding to or helping individuals and communities recover from disaster, Cain focuses on helping communities become more prepared for them.
Following the program, election results were announced with the following members seated for three year terms that will expire in 2015:
Dalonda Young will fill the unexpired term of Ted Wensick. Jordan asked for a motion to destroy the ballots. Jeff Campos moved to destroy the ballots. Theresa Clark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
John recognized the graduating seniors, Jordan Brown and Austin Kerr, who will be leaving the Extension board.
Ann Fremion presented a flowering plant to Mrs. Leu, outgoing President of the Extension Board.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m. The old and new board members gathered briefly for photos. The retreat date of March 21, 2013 was confirmed.
