Minutes

LaGrange County Office Building Conference Room

 

Members in attendance:  Erica Barrows, Jordan Brown,  Jeff Campos, Theresa Clark, Harold Gingerich, Mervin Lehman, Crystal Leu, Jennifer McBride, Mike Patka, Cara Perkins, Marissa Richardson, Ted Wensink and Ryan Young

 

Ex Officio Members: John Emerson and Ann Fremion

 

Call to Order- Crystal Leu, President

The business meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

Approval of Agenda

Mervin moved to approve the agenda as presented.  Mike Patka seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

Approval of Minutes from May 5th---Theresa Clark, Secretary

Minutes from the May 3, 2012 meeting were presented. Mervin moved to accept the minutes as presented.  Cara seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

Old Business:

None at this time.

 

New Business: 

-2013 Extension Board Annual Budget Recommendation & Review by Extension

Board.  Mervin presented the budget as presented by the Budget Committee.  The salary lines for the part-time secretary and the office manager were presented with a 3 % increase.  The postage and travel lines were cut as they were not being used.  Mike Patka moved to approve the budget as it stands.  Harold Gingerich seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

- 4-H preparations continue.  John spoke about the grant they got, focusing on science and engineering. John discussed an event that he went to with Emmy Kratz and others at the Country Heritage Winery where the value of the Extension Service was showcased.  FFA representatives had a great conference.  Ann – have IBAT – in human development Have Block parties – received funding for Block kits.  They need to do more promotion this time.  The focus is on pre-literacy skills, math, science skills.  They will have an education component followed by a Block party.  Targeting ages 3+ to grade school.  The kits contain 1 inch cubes, “rectangle tongue depressors, cardboard blocks, and wooden blocks.  The presentation can be combined with another event.  Here they are considering a Health and Wellness event to show it.  Deb Pontecorvo – sent in reports on Professor Popcorn which she will be presenting at the 3 libraries over the summer.  She is also expanding the adult programs: Aging & in-home and also at WIC.  The Homemakers lost one of their 3 preschool sites at South Milford, but will now be going to Methodist preschool instead.  There will be a book fest in September.  Ann is working on an herb garden program, flowers.  The Homemakers will have prizes for each category at the fair this year for the open categories. 

 

Announcements:

Steve is convalescing well.  He had both hips resurfaced.

 

The 4-H board needs help with kids crafts: to chaperone and work 10-4 on Wednesday at the 4-H fair.  Contact either Mike Patka or Beth Sherman.

Jeff moved to adjourn.  Theresa seconded the motion.  The motion carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
