Conference/Open Judging: What is it and how do you make it best for you?

The term conference or open judging in 4-H is an interactive opportunity for the 4-H member and the judge to review together the exhibit that will be displayed.  Conference Judging can be a great experience for the 4-Her and Judge. Some of the best things about conference judging are (Metzger-Linville,2007) :

• The member and judge discuss the strong and weak points and how the exhibit might be improved.

• Gives the member a greater sense of personal involvement.

• Constructive feedback helps the member gain additional knowledge and skills.

• Helping a member evaluate their project provides incentive and points the way to personal growth.
