More About Captain Ca$h

"Captain Ca$h", a new elementary curriculum designed by Purdue Extension, is setting sail in Miami Co.  It's never too early for children to learn how to become eager earners, savvy savers, wise spenders, and careful borrowers.  This financial literacy program will engage children in money-smart activities and start them down the road to financial fitness.  If you want Captain Ca$h to set sail in your classroom, or embark on a money voyage of your own, contact Julie Butus.

SOAR- Making a DifferenceKim Frazier, SOAR
Students Obtaining Academic Results (SOAR) program targets at-risk students in grades 5-7.  Miami County Extension staff partners with local schools to teach budgeting, nutrition, agriculture, leadership & citizenship skills to students in an after-school setting.  81% of students indicated that SOAR sessions were a fun way to learn.  85% said that they are now thinking about future goals & what they want to do with their.

Money Smart. During these incredibly difficult economic times, Purdue Extension has responded by offering this 5-week basic money management program.  Participants learned, among many things, how to:
Manage a family's budget.
Open, manage & balance a checking account.
Save money & understand why that's important.
As a result of attending the classes, eight (8) participants improved their economic bottom lines.
More about Master Gardener Program

Master Gardeners Educate & Enhance the Community  Key horticultural skills by adults share what they've learned with others while providing leadership & service in educational gardening activities in Miami County.  Local Master Gardeners provide 1,200 hours of community service each year, and have established a community garden to stock local food pantries.
