ANIMAL AGRICULTURE

 

Owen County encompasses 385 square miles of land in West Central Indiana.  The county is home to roughly 570 farms.  In 2007, 17,604 acres of the county was designated pasture.  Owen County is ranked 13th in the state in terms of acres of pasture.

As of 2007, there were 4,143 hogs, 564 sheep, and 953 chickens in Owen Co.  That allows the county to be ranked 69th, 37th, and 31st in hogs, sheep, and chicken production, respectively.  In 2011, there were 5,400 cattle in Owen County allowing the county to be ranked 57th in cattle production in the state.
