2013 MT. VERNON FARMERS MARKET COMING IN JUNE…WEATHER PERMITTING!
The Mt. Vernon Farmers Market will be open again this summer in the same location as last year, next to the McDonald’s Restaurant on Fourth St. in Mt. Vernon. It will be open every Tuesday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm throughout the summer, beginning on June 11th and continuing until the last Tuesday in August, weather permitting. “The Mt. Vernon Farmers Market last summer was cut short, due to the prolong drought we had last year. Because most of our vendors aren’t set up to irrigate their produce or couldn’t afford to pay for the amount of water necessary to keep their gardens going, we ended up closing about a month early,” said Jon Neufelder, Purdue Extension Educator and Market Master for the Mt. Vernon Farmers Market.
This will be the fifth year for the Farmers Market in Mt. Vernon and the third year for the location next to McDonald’s in Mt. Vernon. “This should help our customers find us quicker this year and lead to even more success this summer, if Mother Nature will cooperate,” says Neufelder.
New this year is the collaboration with the Wadesville Farmers Market and Posey County Farm Bureau, Inc. as our local sponsor. Vendors who would like to participate in both markets this summer will get a discount on their vendor fees (1/2 price on the second market they attend). Posey County Farm Bureau, Inc. is assisting with management and advertising expenses for both markets this year.
