This project is often confused with the "Wood Science" project. Rules for wood science are located later in this handbook. Check rules carefully before enrolling in this project.
Beginners (Grades 3-5)
Select and finish a small undecorated article of wood. No decoration is to be applied. Examples of articles: box, picture frame, cut-out puzzle, candle holders and etc.
Intermediate (Grade 6-8)
Wood Design and Finishing
Make or purchase one article, such as a wooden plate breadboard, box, puzzle, or plaque. Sand and smooth. Apply design with paint, watercolors, chip carving, colored pencils or wood burning. Apply finish making sure applied design is not changed by the finish. Exhibit a finished project following the above three steps.
Advanced (Grades 9 & up)
Development of Skills in Working with Wood
Make or purchase and finish two or more articles, using one or more of the skills listed in the handcraft project handout. Exhibit finished project in accordance with guidelines.
