Family Nutrition Program – Ripley County
The Family Nutrition Program of Ripley County is a free service for anyone with limited resources who would like to learn how to stretch their food dollars and food stamps, and at the same time give their family healthy meals. The FNP is for families, single adults, youth, and special audiences such as senior citizens.
The Family Nutrition Program works with both individuals and groups on lessons about nutrition, feeding young children, meal preparation, meal planning, food safety, and money management. ___________, the FNP assistant for Ripley County, is available to teach lessons in the home or other convenient locations within the county. The lessons are always free and the client can work with the FNP Assistant to decide which topics are right for their family and how often they would like to meet. Along the way, participants will receive small gifts for their kitchen and home.
Children are always welcome to be a part of the Family Nutrition Program, and can be given age-appropriate activities during lesson time. (There is always something in the “goodie bag” for them, too!)
The following are examples of the lessons available in the Family Nutrition Program:
· How to Make the Pyramid Mine
· Understanding Food Labels
· Sensational Side Dishes and Snacks
· Getting Your Calcium-Rich Foods
· Going Lean with Protein
· Figuring out Fats
· Safe Food for Your Family
· Great Meals
· The “Ins” and “Outs” of Getting Through the Month
· A Trip to the Store
· Meal Planning
· Being Active & Walk Your Way to Fitness

Community agencies that work with limited resource families are invited to contact the Ripley County Extension Office for information on how they can make client referrals. You do not have to be referred by any agency, however, to participate in the Family Nutrition Program. Simply call __________ at 812-689-6511 to find out more and to schedule a visit.
