Summer Parks 2011

Helping Hands in the Garden

Summertime means warm weather, baseball, and of course fresh vegetables from the garden.  For the youth of the Warren County Summer Parks Program, this summer included hands on experience in gardening.  The Purdue Extension – Warren County staff provided weekly lessons about P.L.A.N.T.S.  Each letter represented a different lesson:

Place, Light, Air, Nutrients, Thirsty (water), and Soil

· Program included lessons for 125 youth in pre-K
  through 7
th grade.

· Participants created three small gardens full of a
  variety of vegetables.

· The importance of eating Vegetables was reinforced
  with healthy snacks being offered.

Summer Parks program is sponsored by Warren County Community Foundation, and T-Shirt sponsored by Hubner Seed.  Pictured above is a Thank you to Hubner Seed for their support.
