The cost of healthcare insurance for local government employees can take a giant bite out of the municipal budget. Purdue Extension and the Purdue Technical Assistance Program have partnered to offer programming to help local officials understand their options for choosing a healthcare plan that balances costs and care. They also assist in developing and implementing strategies that optimize healthcare services usage.

Healthcare Video Workshops
Once each year, Purdue Extension and Purdue TAP offer a video workshop that provides an overview of strategies to control healthcare insurance costs. The most recent workshop was on April 29, 2010 and an archived video stream of that workshop is available here.

Check this page soon for information about the next workshop.

Healthy Workforce Services
Do you know how much poor health costs you as an employer? In addition to healthcare costs, poor health also affects productivity, absenteeism, worker's compensation claims, and employee morale. By assessing the various areas affected by poor health, you can develop meaningful interventions to contain all of these costs. The Healthy Workforce program provides you with strategies related to wellness-oriented interventions at the employee level to improve overall health and well-being while reducing unnecessary utilization of the healthcare system. The program goals include: decreased absenteeism and “presenteeism”; increase productivity; reduced, or at least contained, health-related expenses; improved employee health and well-being; and improved morale.
For more information about healthcare-related programs, contact an educator in your local Purdue Extension office, or Contact Us here on campus.
